Ice Tracks: Today's Heroic Age of Polar Adventure

There was no point in thinking about the emergency beacon because no-one was going to get there in time and no plane could land. I pulled my little picture painted by Jock which was laminated with a message from William on the other side. I laid it on top of one of sledges and I focused on it, like a prayer, and everything receded. The noise and chaos, and even the fear just seemed to back off….. I thought how strange, in the eye of death, I am standing here thinking of love.
